Initiatives by SCI towards Quality, Safety and Environment sustainability

The Shipping Corporation of India Ltd. has been awarded an Integrated Management System (IMS) Certification on 23rd December, 2015; by virtue of which SCI complies with the MoU target for 2015-16 by Govt. of India.

SCI is now awarded with ISO 9001:2015 (QMS), ISO 14001:2015 (EMS), and ISO 45001:2018 (OH&SMS) certification across its establishment and fleet.

The scope of IMS certification includes Owning, Managing and Chartering of ships for transportation of Goods and Passengers, Offshore and Marine Advisory Services, Maritime Training Services and Port/Terminal Operations Management.

IMS is internationally recognized as an assurance to customers and stakeholders about delivering high quality, responsible and consistent results over time.

Recently SCI's Maritime Training Institute inaugurated 0.5 MW Solar Grid Connected System.

Further SCI has updated and implemented new Drug & Alcohol Policy

SCI’s Drug & Alcohol Policy

SCI is committed to prevent drug and alcohol abuse for the health and welfare of its employees, operational safety and the environment to:

Prevent Drug and Alcohol Abuse amongst all employees ashore and afloat.

In order to fulfill this aim, the SCI is committed to prevent drug and alcohol abuse amongst all employees as part of the SCI’s commitment to the health and welfare of its employees, operational safety and protection of environment.

To achieve these objectives, the SCI, through its Drug & Alcohol Policy, shall ensure following in the offices and onboard ships owned and operated by SCI:

  •   Prohibit consumption of illegal drugs (which include but are not limited to heroin, cannabis, cocaine, ecstasy and amphetamines) and alcohol within office and work premises ashore
  •   Prohibit consumption of illegal drugs (which include but are not limited to heroin, cannabis, cocaine, ecstasy and amphetamines) and alcohol onboard as per section “Drug & Alcohol Procedures” in Shipboard SMS Manuals.
  • Prohibit individuals from reporting for duty under the influence of drug and alcohol
  • Comply with mandatory Merchant Shipping regulations in respect of general health, safety and responsibilities on employees and employers
